7th August 2025 Energy Price Alert – UK Gas & UK Electricity

On Wednesday, the see-saw continued – this time, wholesale gas and electricity prices both dropped, with more marked decreases in gas.

Gas: Despite increased demand, NBP prices dropped yesterday. Demand is expected to drop off over the weekend but remain above seasonal norm. This morning, early trading is down on last nights close.

Power: Prices fell yesterday, pressured by strong renewable output and losses within NBP and carbon markets. EDF’s Heysham 2 nuclear reactor goes offline today for planned maintenance and is not expected back until 20 August.

Carbon (EU ETS): The ICE Dec-25 fell to €70.99/t yesterday. Opening at €70.67/t this morning, the contract is currently trading at the same value at time of writing.

Carbon (UKAs): The ICE Dec-25 closed at £51.05/t yesterday. The contract opened at £50.68/t today and continues to trade at this level at the time of writing.
