25th September 2024 Energy Price Alert – UK Gas & UK Electricity

Wholesale gas and electricity prices were broadly stable on Tuesday, with minor movements in both directions.

Gas: A mixed day for gas prices yesterday as the prompt weighed up forecasts of increased wind production alongside forecasts of colder temperatures. Further out on the curve, prices were volatile as geopolitical tensions continued.

Power: Prices proved volatile yesterday on the back of mixed fundamentals. The 111MW unplanned outage at Hartlepool 1 nuclear plant has been extended by 2 days until the 26 September, which may weigh on DA contracts.

Oil: Oil contracts gained yesterday on the back of news that China has announced further measures to help stimulate the economy, aimed at helping the country meet its annual growth target. A weakened USD also spurred on buying activity from non-USD currency holders.

Carbon (EU ETS): The ICE Dec-24 contract ended the day trading down at €63.87/t yesterday. The contract is currently trading close to the previous days settlement at €64.24/t

Carbon (UKAs): The ICE Dec-24 closed at £38.56/t yesterday. Currently, the contract has not yet traded today.
