On Tuesday, 22 September, wholesale gas and electricity prices were broadly stable in comparison with recent times, with small increases of £1 per megawatt-hour on electricity and less than a penny per therm on gas.
It’s encouraging to see that the wins from Monday and over the weekend have been held, but let’s see what the week holds as the UN General Assembly continues through Thursday.
| Gas: Gas prices fell away yesterday, with Winter 26 falling around 7%. Hopes that UN involvement may improve diplomacy between the US and Iran helped remove some of the associated risk premiums. Prices this morning are below last night’s close. Power: Most power contracts fell in value yesterday, tracking sharp declines in NBP. Low wind output pushed the day ahead and weekend contracts higher. This morning, markets are below last night’s settlement. Oil: Prices fell again yesterday, now at their lowest levels in 12 days. Prices were pressured by renewed hopes of diplomatic breakthroughs in the Middle East. Carbon (EUAs): The ICE Dec-26 closed at €86.59/t last night. The contract opened this morning at €86.88/t. Carbon (UKAs): The ICE Dec-26 traded to £58/t yesterday. The contract opened flat this morning. |
