17th July 2025 Energy Price Alert – UK Gas & UK Electricity

On Wednesday, wholesale gas and electricity prices rose, which was not what we expected. Although the rises were more pronounced in electricity than gas, they did not fully compensate for the reductions seen on Tuesday.

Gas: NBP prices closed higher in the prompt yesterday, supported by a short gas grid and an unplanned outage at Nyhamna. Wind generation for the remainder of the week is forecast to be c.20% below norm, adding further upside. This morning, the front month and quarter are trading higher than last nights close.

Power: There were gains throughout the power curve yesterday, supported by NBP movements and below seasonal norm wind output. The market is keeping a watch on Norwegian outages/maintenance as this will likely elevate prices.

Carbon (EU ETS): The ICE Dec-25 settled down yesterday at €71.31/t. Opening at €71.07/t this morning, the contract is currently trading at €71.07/t.

Carbon (UKAs): The ICE Dec-25 closed at £51.14/t yesterday. The contract opened at £51.30/t and is currently trading at £51.52/t.
