13th January 2026 Energy Price Alert – UK Gas & UK Electricity

On Monday wholesale Gas and Electricity prices jumped sharply in the short term (February/March contracts).

April and October contracts also moved up, albeit only slightly.

Gas: Gas prices jumped up yesterday, supported, in the prompt, by cold weather and a drop in forecasted wind output. All eyes are on events in Iran, with any escalation bringing potential to impact oil supply and subsequently gas prices.

Power: Power prices gained yesterday, backed by strong movements in NBP gas contracts. Bullish momentum in the UKA Dec 26 contract supported curve prices. A strong start in this morning’s market has implied prices up on last night’s close.

Oil: Oil prices gained to their highest point since December, as ongoing protests in Iran raise concerns about potential supply disruptions.

Carbon (EUAs): The ICE Dec-26 climbed to €90.10/t yesterday. The contract has opened at €90.64/t this morning.

Carbon (UKAs): The ICE Dec-26 rose to £70.03/t by close of trading last night. This morning, the contract opened higher at £70.15/t.
