Wholesale gas and electricity prices were flat on Wednesday, with very little movement. One-year prices are currently £80 per MWh for electricity and 83.0p per therm for gas. Spreads between one- and three-year terms remain at less than 5%.
| Gas: NBP prices remained relatively flat yesterday, although some contracts had modest gains. Strong wind forecasts for the remainder of the week are likely to mute gas for power generation. Lower temperatures have potential to increase heating demand, however high wind output next week could stave off any price increases. Power: Power prices remained relatively steady yesterday with only small movements throughout the curve. Strong renewable generation pressured prompt prices. Further out on the curve, movements were influenced by NBP and carbon movements. Carbon (EU ETS): The ICE Dec-25 fell to €77.1/t yesterday. Opening at €77.21/t this morning, the contract is currently trading at €76.75/t, at time of writing. Carbon (UKAs): The ICE Dec-25 closed at £57.35/t yesterday. The contract opened at £57.21/t this morning and is currently trading at £57.10/t. |
